I have seen this recomended on a few hamster forums. Has anyone tried it for degus? I have baths in both cages and 2 large ones in their play area plus 4 hamsters and 2 gerbils with baths. My sand spend at the moment is getting silly.

PLAY SAND? I've not heard of it, but that doesn't mean it isn't available here as well. Sounds like another way of parting an owner from his hard earned cash.

Sorry I meant children's play sand. The stuff you have in sand boxes. Apparently you can dry it out in the oven.

I don't know how this is in England. Here, this sand for playgrounds is quite coarse-grained and therefore not suitable for degu sand baths. Often it is somewhat wet as well. But at least here you can buy quartz sand/ silica sand with 0,1-0,4 mm size which is perfectly suitable (here I have to look in the area of construction materials). For 25 kg we pay about 7 euros in a DIY market. For sand of the same size in a pet shop we would have to pay this money for max. 3-4 kg.
