Hey all,
So last night I came to check on one of my pairs of degus and they were in the midst of a boxing fight (with some kicking). Neither treats nor playtime outside the cage was distracting them from this bout of rocky IV. Although it did start to get quite intense for thier"play fighting" I decided to leave it.
When I checked this morning, I found lots of splotches of blood from top to bottom of my cage. Ofcourse this meant immediate inspection of my degus , strangely after a 5minute inspection on each of them I could find no signs of injury nothing external or inside the mouth. Furthermore they are acting 100% normal as if nothing had happened still running and playing.
Any ideas? lol

Maybe they could pull out their nail? It leaves some blood around cage but not easily visible on their paw.

I had this problem with one of my boys. It turned out that one had a very small nip at the very end of his tail. I checked him over 3 times before I found this problem. I couldnt believe there was so much blood for such a tiny wound. Kat

You sure it's blood from them not from eating beetroot or carrot?

@malt
Hey, they do eat beetroot and carrot, but this is not the reason for the red splotches, this red is brighter than thier normal beetroot urine. I have kept a close eye on them the last few days and they are 100% normal and friends still, so im reluctant to show any further concern. Although I always panick at some of the horrible wounds I see on degus, they are surprisingly durable creatures.
