I was talking to someone about my degus, and how I love playing with them in there pen (should be getting an even better play pen soon!) They are so much fun and so funny. And he said "are you a bit old to be playing with hamsters" Well....I was really annoyed 1. they aren't hamsters....duh.... 2. who says?!?! why am I too old? why is 21 to old to enjoy the company of some loveable creatures? Am I too old??

HARDLY!!! My goodness . . . I love playing with our little ones and I'm more than twice your age!! I LOVE to play with animals no matter what kind. Catching and releasing frogs in the wild is a GREAT lot of fun!! Next time you see this man . . . give him a raspberry for me. ;D

LOL!! I'm glad I'm not to old! I cut ties with him as soon as he said it, it was the "hamster" bit that got me. After I tell you I have Degus you don't start calling them hamsters!! next time I see him I'll do that just for you and tell him a moderator form the degu forum told me to do it lol

Thanks ok, I'll keep it a secret. Global Mod is such a good title, makes you sound like you police the whole web lol. I'm a mod on another forum and my title is "super mod" me and another super mod joke about it being like super hero LOL I love when I find a forum with like minded people on it most of the people I have to deal with day to day are judgemental of me and my animals. I do get annoyed when people call them giant gerbils or mini chinchillas

LOL! Wait till you hear the way some of us have tried to describe them to our friends!!! We get rather creative, and then give up and invite the unknowing enquirer over so they can see with their own eyes. I have a friend that openly tells me, "I'm sure they are great pets, but I'm sorry, they just look like rats to me." My Mom shares the sentiment. LOL!! That's OK . . . I just make sure I don't ask either of them to try and hold them. Not sure who'd be more terrified . . . them or the degus!! Not going to find out either.

lol! oh dear! I posted pictures of them to another forum with the title "My Degus" and people posted is it a rat is it a mouse!? I had to laugh it off! When my degu came down ill (hes fully recovered now) I put at the end of my post "Please don't ask me what a degu is I'm not in the mood, just use your noodle and google them!!" luckily as a mod on there, I got away with that LOL

Too old! Pah!! You can never be too old to enjoy playing with your pets! Hey, and I even have hamsters ;D So a degu, hmmm, what was my description again... oh yeah! A body of a squirrel, with a gerbil tail, a chinchilla head and ears, but the head's been squashed in! This is then when people walk away with a puzzled look on their face.

Lol I just say that they are fat squirrels with a lion tail. I wonder what people imagine in their heads. I find that people think that I'm too old for my hamsters. I really don't get why hamsters are known as a kids pet, mine are almost always asleep when the kids are up.

If someone really thinks that you are too old to play with an animal of any kind, they are truly lost their sense of fun, wonder, and adventure. That isn't a state of "mature," it is a state of crochettey oldness of mind and heart. The kind of person who will become sour with age, rather than sweet.
