I have a 5-6 month old degu called Moss who I adopted a month ago, he's not allowed to be with other degu's as he fights apparently so I was worried he'd be bored on his own.
He has a three tier cage and all he seems to do is rip up the cardboard floors 24/7 which I suspect is partially out of boredom, I have a wheel ordered for him but apart from that how else can I keep him entertained? He's usually up all night too making alot of noise!
Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi there, and welcome to the forum! The best you can do for him is to get him degu company. Degus really shouldn't be on their own. You write he's not allowed to be with other degu's because he fights. Can you tell us a bit more about this; we may then be able to help you with advice how you can get him introduced to another degu.

Katyleanne, you said, "he's not allowed to be with other degu's as he fights apparently so I was worried he'd be bored on his own."
Is this something the people at the petshop told you?

Welcome to the forum That is exactly what they said at the petshops about my two girls aswell.. They had been fighting so badly that they had to be kept apart. It was a load of rubbish Only a few weeks later they were reintroduced and have never fought since. In my opinion, they had only been fighting because they were stuck in a much too small cage in the petshop and only had one small wheel to share. I would definitely try and get him a companion and introduce them carefully using the guide on this forum. Your degu will be much happier for it!

I thought I would never integrate one of my degus due to fighting, with patience and enough time however it is possible. Its probably going to be easier with just one, as he will be able to be boss and therefore wont need to keep fighting. Try the guide, and good luck!

Mine like to demolish toilet roll and kitchen roll tubes.
( I say mine, I mean one of mine - Cleo - Daisy doesn't get a look in!)

Hi Lucky my 4 month old was sold to us as "MUST live on his own" - and yes he does fight the little begger - but the other 4 older goo's sort of tolerate him now and flatten him in goo style when he gets too ummm adolescent ! I agree with the other comments pet shops etc pets at home have no idea how to look after degu's or cage them and that with time he should be fine and mixing with other goo's like he should bless him ;D

Degus fight to make a hierarchicy this is natural. You shloud never have one degu on there own. Please get him a friend or 2!? Plus you can give them cardboard boxes, wooden toys, tubes and tunnels.
