Can I buy a strip of the millet seed (they sell it for birds) as a snack for my degus? Would they even like it? Or is it bad for them?

I give it to my degus. They have a few of the little bunches from the main strip. They really like it. They also have it in their seed mix. Its one of the lower fat seeds.

Millet seed is definitely a good seed for them and as Kat said it's the lower fat seeds. I must admit I put a whole spray in the cage for them. After the initial frenzy they will then nibble on it and it normallly lasts about 2-3 weeks or so.

Millet seeds are one of the favourite snacks of my degus, although I have to chop the spray down to smaller pieces. Otherwise Elune will run off with the whole thing and defend it loudly

Mine go nuts for this too - I usually peg a whole spray in the inside of the cage and it lasts about 3 days - they go nuts initially for it!

So glad to read this. I have a huge bag of birdseed, mostly consisting of millet and black oil sunflower seeds. a little bit of crushed corn that I'll try to minimize. Happy to see that I can feed it to my goos. And they're lovin in. Sprinkle it here and there so they can go forage. What happy adorable little goos.

I tend to pick out any corn I find in my degus food as I've got one with diabetes.
If you really want them to have some fun, give them each a hazelnut, still in the shell, then sit back and enjoy.
