yesterday we went out and priced up all the bits we need to make a start on our new cage, baring in mind that we have already spent 70 euros on it.. anyway, with all the wood, screws, hinges etc we are looking at another 150 euros + (stuff like wood is so expensive out here!)
i was hoping that our cage would be done this week, but with money problems "again" it looks like i may have to wait until monday to start... (fingers crossed hubby feels guilty and starts tomorrow though..?)
i originally planned to build the cage 100cms x 50cms and height of 192cms, however..........ive now changed those plans and now it will be 200cms x 50cms with the height of 96cms...
what do you think, do you think it will be good enough for 4 girlies? it will have 2 complete levels, both 200 x 50cms and one level of 100 x 50cms, there will also be plenty of room for smaller levels and ledges.
the thing i like about the cage is, if in the future i have any problems with fighting etc the cage can be easily split in two!
like before with my first cage, the main structure will be a metal shelving unit with wood frame, door, floor etc etc the only problem ATM is money, and because of the lack of it we MAY have to only build half for the time being? im really hoping that we will be able to do the lot and im really quite peeved about it but half is much bigger than willow and the pups have got now so will be much better for them!
here is a couple of pictures of the frame unit we are using...
and here is a couple of our last cage to give you an idea of what the end result will be...
i love the cage and its worked out really well, i only wish i brought a larger frame but its fine for 2 degus, i wouldnt really want to add any more though...
so what do you guys think? do you think our new cage will suffice? i have a couple of drawn up plans also, i would post them here but cant work the scanner...lol
