Seeing as both my degus now love their saucer, I'm thinking of getting another one. I'm not really happy with the lime green plastic one, both because it was slightly broken during shipping and because it's, well, plastic. I believe I have seen wooden ones in some of the photos of degu cages on here, so if anyone knows where I might buy them online please let me know I could also make one I suppose, but I just don't know how

Hi, we have wooden saucers. The running plate is from IKEA, the big plate Hultet (45 cm, the smaller ones are too small in our opinion). My husband tried out a couple of ball bearings and is using now the ones used in hard disks. Unfortunately, there isn't any picture on how he is constructing these running plates.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thank you I'm glad that the plates are from IKEA, I can get them quite easily. I also think I can construct a similar base, it seems less complicated now that I can use this photo as reference. Is it stable or does it shake a bit when your degus are running on it? My plastic one is quite shaky, but it looks like this one has a much more solid base

I am using the IKEA Snudda revolving plate as a running dish. www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6uUtEsWwhY It's not shaky at all. You could use the foot and ballbearings from this and fix the Hultet plate onto it. I'll probably try this myself.

That looks really nice I'll buy the revolving plate as well, and see what I can come up with. Right now, the plastic one is at a rather steep angle, and I don't like the fact that my degus' backs are constantly curved to one side while they're running. So I'm going to make it more horizontal like the one in that video. Thanks for the tips
