Ok, so, new behaviour here. Always between 0600-0700, different degu in a different group each time, one, and only one of them will start "barking" very loudly. Won't even stop if we get up and hold them. It's rather strange, and has only started this last week or so. Any ideas folks?

are you 100% sure all your degus are the same sex??? it sounds like the mating bark? if you are sure of the sex of all of your goos then im guessing you have males? maybe they have been cleaning their regions and have successfully self pleasured themselves? not sure if ive made myself clear here as i cant hear myself think due to my kids trying to kill eachother i best go sort them out

Well, this sound can be also heart when a degu is frightened about something. Maybe he had a bad dream, saw or heart something strange? And then there is this mating bark that nuttz already mentioned. We hear this from time to time when one of our neutered boys cries it out a couple of minutes after having mated a girl.

Well, the first time it was one of the 4 Croydon Boys we adopted here, second time appeared to be one of our original 2 boys, and we've had them for about 8 months now. 3 weeks off coming up, so time to start the integration game......

Sounds like something is alarming them at that time. Any particular noise happens at that time? Maybe from neighbours that you can't quite hear but the degus can?

They're in the furthest room from the neighbours, all I can think of is birds outside?

Ok, happened again about half an hour ago, managed to sneak in the room, only to find Kazooie bent in half, enjoying himself, so nothing to worry about!

ROTFL! HOW WELL I know that posture . . . bent in half describes it well!! At least this means the mystery is cleared up.
