We had some fun and games this weekend. Recently got 3 degu's for the first time and wanted a play pen to let them play out.
Unfortuantly the one we bought as soon as the first one got in slipped easily through the gap DOH!.
We got her (and the rest) into a travel case which they decided they would eat the way out of DOUBLE DOH!
We have now bought some wire mesh to go round it but its not tight enough to the cage so maybe need some cardboard to sturdy up the bottom. I just wish there was a nice pen to get which would do the job.

lol @ your goos, they certainly sound like they have quirky personalities ;D
as far as ive learnt about play pens is, that it is very hard, if not impossible to find one suitable for degus, you could try making one yourself or maybe buy a bigger playpen, say for rabbits and adapt it for your goos?
some of the members here have made some very good pens, im sure if you search the forum, probably in the cage section, you will find pictures of good examples!

I wish I could DIY one but I am usless at that sort of thing.
As an aside from the playpen - We put a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the cage so to help the feet of the degu's from wire. One is currently demolishing that as we speak lol - Should we put anything on top of the cardboard eg hay, sawdust like in the nest? or is it ok just on the board.

that is completely up to you, i would probably put some substrate down, that way maybe the goos wont see the cardboard so easily and therefore, wont chew..........lol ok, i know those goos are are more intelligent than us..who am i trying to kid

I bought some large thin wooden boards from b&q which we use to seperate one side of the room (away from the door, wires and pool table which they kept trying to eat before!). They were only £3 something each and are very smooth on one side so they can't climb up. They are also at just the right height to step over if you need to. We were taping them together with gaffers tape but now overlap them slightly and support them on each side perioically with something heavyish (large book, my sons toy box etc) and it works really well.

I wish I could DIY one but I am usless at that sort of thing. I have a pen for my guys (I'm sat in it as I type with all 6 running around like maniacs). It is literally 3x 2 mdf panels with a hinge joining them together. They stand up on their own and give my guys plenty of 'restricted' running room. It's really easy to do and makes life much easier

Thank you, I will have to give that a try. Hopefully it will protect the skirting boards a bit if they are in a pen!
