Hello,
several times I heard degu owners say that their degus prefer red objects.
Observed objects were:
- food items, especially red cherry tomatos
- tissue, cloth
What is your experience? Did you ever observed a preference for a given colour?

Hmmm!! Interesting question!! I have never truly paid attention to this . . . but I think I will give it a try with some different clothing colours etc and see if anything stands out. Not tonight, mind you, but sometime soon.
When these other degu owners say "prefer" does that mean that they are more friendly/welcoming/excited when they see red? Or are they more hungry if the food is red? Or are they like bulls and become more aggressive?

this is interesting, I never thought of it before but my sisters fave hoody is red and my most well behaved degu, who sits on my shoulder nicely literally leaps from my shoulder like a flying squirrel doing a star jump and climbs onto her shoulder, snuggling into her hair. I always thought she just had an attraction to my sister, but I suppose it could be because she's wearing red 90% of the time?

I would like to find a colour that would help calm the girls down when it is time to go to bed ;D

Lol nightwishraven red certainly does not calm my degus down, if it has an effect it makes them risk their little lives jumping for it lol

Well my girls like purple  I always put it down to the fact that their first 'favourite' wheel is purple. A while ago now I gave them a selection of coloured wood pieces to chew, all were destroyed in a week or two apart from, you guessed it, the purple piece. It's held in very high regard! Always has to be in the treasure pile near the nest. Maybe some associate certain colours with nice things happening? I should paint my skirting boards purple........  |

The boys all LOVE the pink wheel we have for them, much more than the purple or green wheels. The pink is a really light girly pink (only wheel that was the right size in the store at the time . . . and they're degus!! Didn't think colour would be an issue for them. LOL!) so it doesn't even come close to red.

That's strange. I remember I read somewhere that degus can see only blue and gray. I don't remember where and I have no idea if it's true.
