I have a real problem with Lily and Lulu at the moment, whenever they come out they obsessively chew the skirting board by the door.
We put lots of different toys out when they come out and move everything else out the way, so how would be best to stop them? If they carry on we're going to get in big trouble with our landlords!!

Hi, we have had the same problem with our two girls. They seem to love chewing the skirting boards, especially under the radiator! The only way we could stop them was by covering them up with a towel, cardboard box etc. We actually had to paint over the skirting boards in our last house because of all the bits they had chewed off!
Another suggestion is maybe to try a spray thats supposed to deter the degus from biting their cages etc. It's like an anti-chew spray, sorry i cant remember the name of it, but it was available at pets at home. This worked with our degu Nosey for a while but she quickly got used to it...actually think she was starting to like it lol.
Once the degus have found something they like to chew they'll do everything and anything to get back to it! lol
Good luck!

i have same problem.. i cover one thing with cardboard and they just move on to the next thing ..skirting, table, chairs, fireplace, tv unit and drawers anything wood they'll have a bash at it.. in fact come to think of it not only wood .. leather sofa's been well nibbled & wallpaper.. so i now save all my cardboard boxes including food boxes & have a rather large supply of duck tape... it takes me almost an hour to destructagooproof my living room each time.. & the bonus is the duck tape comes in handy for keeping the kids quiet too..

hehe! Got to remember that when I have kids!!
Bitter apple spray, Nutmeg took one sniff at that, wrinkeld her nose, then one minute later was chomping at the wallpaper. I have no idea what's so attractive about our wall paper as it's not only the degus that want a piece of it but also the rabbit wants to chomp way at it!
