Hey, my degu Jack has had very bright orange teeth (healthy). Just recently I've noticed they have been a pale yellow with black dots in the middle. It seems the black is something hard stuck on his teeth. Poo perhaps? He has begun eating his poo often.
I know white teeth are a cause for concern. Are pale yellow teeth too? He's energetic, loves to chatter, and runs like mad on his wheel. His diet has not changed. He gets Sunseed Vita Degu food and occasionally guinea pig pellets for a couple days here and there when we run out of degu food. He gets clumps of Timothy Hay every night and drinks water from a water bottle.
I've tried to get him to eat treats and vegetables but he never has any interest. I have tried romaine lettuce, cucumber, other lettuce types.
Am I missing something he needs? I've had him 3 years with no issues.
Yes, he is alone. Yes, I know they are social. I got him when not much was known about them and did not know they were so social. He gets lots of attention, has a large cage, and seems to be happy.
