Is anyone else having issues with their goo's destroying everything? I keep having to tidy the cage, put substrate back on the shelves etc and within 2 minutes of putting the gang back in everything is all over the place again! I have no idea why they are doing it, it's only started within the last week or so and I'm really muddled Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe your degus are rebels? I'd just leave it, it's their home and if they want to change how it looks then that's their choice.

I have the same problem. When you figure it out, let me know! It's now called 'decorating' in my house

Lol it's called making a blummin mess in mine! Same prob, they'll leave the substrate alone for a few days then without warning they pretty much empty one whole end of the cage. Pepper has been naughtier the last two days, maybe it's the full moon?!! Were-goos. ;D

I don't mind rearranging the cage Cherpi, it's destroying everything in it that I'm struggling with!
Weregoo's, sounds possible!

Yup, they pretty much destroy everything!! I'm fed up of finding a nibble hole in all my clothing, furniture, papers, etc!! And what gets me is that I remove everything when I let them out, so the only time I think they get to chew things is if I place them on a surface for a second or so. How they manage to chew things in that short space of time I don't know!
Cinammon these days is determined to dig down to the centre of the earth, and is making nice pretty piles of wood shavings just outside the cage! Grrr....!

Mine seem pretty destructive atm too. They've started to chew the walls of their (wooden) cage, you know, the flat surfaces that it's 'impossible' for them to chew! I've had to line some of the back with metal.
And lots of my clothes are in the 'degu grunge' style too, small holes, and undone hems.

Mine have managed to do this too! I have no idea how but they very nearly managed to get through the wall. Luckily I had some spare metal mesh that I have put across but I'm getting worried about how much more destructive they will get. I've added loads of extra toys and a massive branch to try and occupy them but it doesn't seem to be working.

I'm sorry yours are up to no good too, Dingle, but also glad it's not just mine! It's terryfying how fast they go from ignoring something to madly chewing their way out! I took a couple of photos, so I should probably post them in the cages section.

Mine were doing this - moving bedding to the front, kicking everything everywhere and chewing the hell out of the shelves, nesting box, toys, everything - until I extended their cage and doubled their play area. I thought it was a sign of boredom but having bought myself a couple weeks of piece one of them has now starting attacking the metal wheel (good luck with that!) when we sit down to have dinner or watch TV so I think they just have a tendency to destroy things when the fancy takes them.

When we bought our cage the shelves were mesh-like so my boyfriend bought some wood and cut holes in that and make it into shelves. They are really good and the Degus nibble them but it will take them a while to destroy them. HOWEVER.. Lots of poops were being flung onto the floor I think because of their tails knocking it!! So we bought some "L-shape beading" as he calls it and they insist on biting this!! And then they eat the wood they've chewed off!! They have plenty of wooden toys to chew on and eat so WHYYYYY do they insist on biting the 2 things we don't want them to - the cage doors (NOISY) and the "beading" !!!!?

Ha..mine seem fine until i sit down to watch telly then they start, one at the shelves one at the cage door(what a racket can't hear me telly) then they swap over... So i think oh poor wee things need out.. I then let them out to find they then attack the cage from the outside... I'm thinking what's all that about .. your out.. will you go and run about and burn up some energy... but no they just focus on the cage door... !!!!

Yes, they can destroy everything. I just gave up on it. It's the way they are Imagine to live where their natural habitat is and they choose to live around your house. Here, you're still in the better position now
