Collected some willow branches, chunks, and some bark that is wonderfully thick (like1-2 inches) and textured and gnarly. This was from a cut-down tree that was over 3 feet thick.
Have seen that willow is safe to use, but now wondering if these thick chunks of bark are okay? They would make wonderful ramps and climbing walls.
Also have a few slices of the tree trunk.
Baked as much as would fit in the oven at 250°F for an hour. then let cool inside. Smelled wonderful.
Also, does anyone know if these branches are okay to use in a parakeet cage?

As far as I know Willow bark is fine for degus, as is Birch tree bark.
But for the parakeets, I cannot tell you for sure. Perhaps someone will be able to provide you with more detailed answers.
