cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280748247320Would this cage be ok just as a spare cage to use if I have to put the Goos into an animal boarding place when I'm on holiday? It has had a Chinchilla in it for 4mths but Chinny has now moved to a bigger cage, and I assume I can remove the wire base to make it Degu friendly. Is there any problem with buying second hand cages? I would, of course, give it a very good clean! LOL! And maybe replace the wood shelves. Just not sure if the 'chinchilla' scent may upset the Goos? I could take my regular cage to the boarding place, but it's quite large so won't be easy so I'm researching alternatives! Thanks El

All the cages my goos live in have been second hand and Ive never had any trouble. I give them a good clean and hubby adds new shelves. We just got a liberta explorer cage for free off preloved for the baby boys who chewed their way out of a plastic base cage in about an hour! but thats another story. x

Oh that's great, thanks! Maybe I'll bid on this then, clean it and replace the shelves I hope you caught the boys before they escaped too far! I'm just in the process of Degu proofing my lounge as I get my first pair of boys in 2 weeks time and can't wait!

Our 3 live in 2 (recently) jointed Thickets cages. Got the second one off ebay for £26 and couriered it down.
Basically disinfected the whole thing before customising it to fit the old one, then wiped it down with Pet Safe spray as it had been outside for a while and all is fine.
Good luck.

Lol, yes! although I was on my way out of the front door for school run when I spotted him sitting on the floor staring at me, much cursing later and he was back in his cage with a temporary fix and I was late!

coronasol, I use the thickets cage as a temporary cage for holidays. Cause the thickets cage is smaller it is easier to transport in my car and it means I'm not leaving a humongous cage at my friends/family to look after. As it's only temporary accomodation my goos can put up with being in a smaller cage for a short while.
