One of our degus, Pikachu (the more active one, but climbing and chewing and running rather than spending lots of time in the wheel) seems to be struggling with their wheel - it's a wooden Wonderland one. He was fine with it at first and they went on it together, but when he goes on it now he tries to run with one paw clinging to the edge - which as you can imagine doesn't get him very far. Is he going to realise at some point or am I going to need to get a different wheel sometime?

I suspect he will figure it out. It may be that he is curious about something else and is trying to run and figure out the other thing at the same time. I wouldn't worry about. He's just being . . . normal.

He has the degu equivalent of not wanting to miss out! I think he'll soon realise he can't run and sniff things at the same time!

Haha, ok, I thought it was probably something like that, bless him. He sat on my hand today (Not relevant, I know, I'm just excited)

sort of the same thing but with another animal--
when we got our hedgehog, we were warned that you had to get them a wheel without any bars/supports from the center to the side. Hedgehogs are known to run with their head looking out the side to see if they're getting anywhere, and then they clobber themselves with the support bars!
