I found it on Merlin's foot today - anyone any idea what it is? I am wondering if it's self inflicted as he is still on his own as reintroductions with Arthur aren't going overly well and stuff has made it more difficult to find time and space to give them the run they need. But yeah anyone seen this before? It is on the top of his foot as you can see. I couldn't get a better picture it was a miracle he stayed still this long as he doesn't like being held. He is fine in himself - weighs normal amount, eating and drinking fine.

My Fudge has had this since I got her. It doesn't seem to cause her pain and I've never seen it bleed so I would be tempted to say don't worry too much and keep an eye on it for blood/infection.

One of our boys does this to himself occasionally . . . for no reason that I can discern . . . although . . . what I think is "no reason" could be a HUGE reason in the mind of a degu. Seems to work that way with my kids too . . . anyhoo . . . I don't seem able to influence him to stop when he starts, and he does eventually stop. As Dingle87 says, keep an eye on him and if you see him enlarging it, it may well be wise to have a vet look at it to ensure that he isn't causing more harm than is visible.
