Hello, Just curious really, I get my first Degus in 3 weeks time, but I'm going away the first week in December and have found a small animal boarding place that will take them. The lady has had her own Degus before so she knows all about them. I've never put small pets in boarding before though so I am a little nervous about it! I'm sure they'll be fine - she has a room in her house devoted to letting small animals run round so they should have fun I hope! Does anyone else take Degus to animal boarding places? What are your experiences? I'm also wondering whether to get a smaller cage to take them in so I don't need to move their bigger cage I'll have at home - by smaller I mean the P@H Thicket style one, so not too small! I'm currently looking for one second hand for that purpose. Hope this is in the right forum! El

Hi, sorry no one has replied. This thread seems to have been overlooked...
We have 2 dogs so we have a dog sitter (a 'friend' of ours) who comes and lives at our house and looks after the dogs and therefore feeds and waters the degus.
When we go camping and take the dogs with us (normally only for a weekend) my MIL to be comes and feeds and waters the goos.
I know you can take them to boarding places but haven't done that myself...not sure how much help I've been I'm afraid...

Ha ha! No worries. I was wondering about asking a family member to pop in and feed them, but won't the Goos get lonely in an empty house for a week? My brother-in-law used to pop in and feed our cat when we were away, but I wasn't sure if this was ok for Goos. I thought they may be better where someone will let them out for exercise and such - the animal boarding place is actually a family run business at someone's house who used to own Degus and has small room just for exercising smaller animals each day.
Thanks for your responses!

We have friends that pop in and care for them for us. They know them well enough to take them out for a visit as well. BUT, that's only for a few minutes at a time so the rest of the time the house is quiet and empty. As a result, I like to leave a radio playing while we are gone, put on a timer so that it will stop at night. That gives some sound and human voices to be heard in the house. I've no idea if they like it, LOL, but I do it anyway.
