Hi there and welcome to the forum!!
I am wondering whether getting a second of these cages and putting them side by side would be an option? You would get a cage of 140cm length and 3 levels, which would be great housing for a pair of degus.

Hi Fred,
Thank you for replying so fast.
To be honest I hate the cage we have! Its very hard to clean and not easy to get access to the degus when we need to get them out of the cage for cleaning (and medication - One was lame when we got her). I also don't think it is particularly strudy as things have "popped" off it already. (I will refrain from listing any more of the faults I can find with it...)
Do you know of anyone who has attached two together?
I have seen the parrot cage on Ebay and if it goes for the reserve will be about the same cost as buying another cage like the one we have.
Thank you

One of the reasons why I asked whether two might be an option was that it didn't look that solid. The bar spacing of the parrot cage would be ok for adult degus. What may be a point against it is the hight of the main part. I don't think you would get three levels in there and then it wouldn't seem good value for money. Also I don't think the door(s) give you good access.
Have you seen any others of interest on ebay?
You have just rescued them from a much more confined space and thereby already improved their conditions measurably. There is no need to rush things, and I wouldn't worry if it takes a couple of weeks to find a good replacement.

I have seen a couple of others on ebay but none are as wide. They seem to be all about height.
Perhaps I need to speak to my husband about his carpentry skills!

I agree that the access in the cage you have now is rubbish - I had it when I had rats and would never buy another. I have the single level one as an emergency/hospital cage now but wouldn't use it for any more than that. The parrot cage would be a huge improvement on what you have but there may be a better option.

Thanks.
I am in talk with my husband regarding building something our (his!)self. This won't be a quick fix but at least it will be a good size and easier to clean if I can get him into gear!
