Hi All,
What do you think the best way to extend my cage would be? I was thinking of getting the same cage again and put in on top but any suggestion on securing it and modifying it?
Thanks V x

I think there are quite a few members on here that have modified two or even three P@H cages into one bigger cage. As far as I understand it, the easiest way is to cut a hole in the tray and base of the 'top' cage, then cut a corresponding hole in the the top of the 'bottom' cage and you can get c clips (I think that's what they are called) from eBay or a DIY store which can be used to secure the 2 cages together around the join. Another good modification to the P@H cage is to add extra, bigger shelves so that the goos have more running room. Hope that helps and please let us know how you get on

Hi I had the P@H cage and extended it with another before I made my DIY cage. I would really advise getting a second hand one because there are so many on ebay, this forum and other sights that its really not worth buying a new one! I got mine from a very kind member on this forum for £20! I didn't have any tools which were strong enough to get through the metal bottom of the cage, so I took it out on the second cage and used wire cutters to take the spring mechanism out. I used cable ties to put them together and it held fine and the goos didn't chew them (probably the only thing they haven't!) I would advise getting more wooden shelves though (or attaching the left over wire and covering it) just because although the cage will be tall, there isn't much running space. Theres a really good seller on ebay for shelves here's an example- www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MEGA-PACK-SHELVES-LADDERS-RAT-DEGU-CHINCHILLA-CAGE-/300432974142?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item45f333613e#ht_1331wt_1037Its a really easy extension and you will see how happy the goos are with the extra space! I just couldn't stand the noise of the cage, my girl Tinker had an obsession with chewing the clips that act as hinges for the door!

I have also extended a P@H cage. I have a stack of 3. I removed the bottom of the second cage then cut off the extra at the sides. I then used the spare clips to attach the top and bottom cages together. The mesh that I removed was used to add a second door. The inside of curtain wire is perfect to use for closing the door. I have found that the easiest way to attach two thickets cages is to attach them side by side. Take the side panels off and then join the two cages together with the metal clips you removed while taking the side panels off! Couldn't be easier. I did it (for my rats though) Your degus will then have 180+cm of running space which they will love! You'll then have two wire side panels which you could use for fashioning another level in the cage perhaps?
