Cinammon has got a really weird bedding behaviour. So, they have a covered house where they go to sleep at night time and at the moment they have the finacard soft bedding (looks like long shredded toilet paper of the cheap kind). Normally I dump it in the middle of the cage when I clean the cage and they both have fun making up the bed/nest. However everyday I see Cinammon go into the house, grab a mouthful of bedding, go outside, down one level, back up one level and back into the house. It's like she's taken the bedding for a walk!
Was wondering if anybody else's degu does this?

Taco is similar in what he does, maybe Cinammon is prolonging the enjoyment and excitement of making her bed. haha Taco likes to grap his bedding usually kitchen roll and then go for a run on his wheel with it in his mouth, or he'll take the bedding in his house, come out with the same bit of bedding, run acorss the room go up some levels just to come back down and place it where he had it the last time....
it's so funny watching him.. ;D

Bless her, maybe she is showing the bedding around her home?
My Jim sometimes likes to take bedding out of one 'door' of his bed box then back in through the other 'door', funny boy that he is. I also think he has a bit of a crush on his water bottle, he likes to rub himself all over it, for a good few minutes at a time. I sometimes ask him if he'd like some alone time with his bottle, hehe!

we use pieces of old t-shirts for our boys and Tequila often takes a piece out and runs round the cage with it! if he's out and i throw some of the pieces on the floor he will take them for a run round the whole room before taking them into the cage and nest box, it's so funny!

One of my girls does this as well. Ratte is sometimes out and about with a piece of bedding when I open the door to offer them a treat. She then tries to take the treat with the bedding in her mouth, and of course that doesn't work, and you can see her getting increasingly irritated and frustrated, but she doesn't let go of the bedding!!

ROTFL!! That is so funny!! I think I'm going to have to give the boys some toilet paper and see what they do with it.
A totally different animal . . . my parents dog, Tigger, has a stuffed toy that Mom and Dad named Gumby. Tigger always knows where Gumby is, so if Mom or Dad ask him about Gumby, he will go and find him. Tigger has a bed time ritual that happens every night. He goes to get Gumby, and then he walks all through the house with him in his mouth. While he is walking, he is grumbling and softly whining . . . he's talking to Gumby . . . and he shows Gumby all the best spots to have a sleep. He will walk in and out of these spots for up to 20 minutes until finally "Gumby" has made his choice of bed for the night. At this point, Tigger gently lays him down, pats him gently with his nose a couple of times, licks him, has a last couple of grumbles and whines, and then leaves him there until the next morning when he goes to "wake" him up. LOL! I think he would have been a great "Degu father."

This is one of the best things about having animals...their wierd little habits and rituals! One of my dogs always brings a toy to greet us at the door or sometimes she brings us her horrible, chewed old comfort cushion.
Love it when our goos take their food for a run on the wheel too, its like they've found something really good and have to run away from the others with it! I found sidney having a nap in their food bowl the other day, it worried me for a bit cos he was building a nest in there...thought we had a miss-sexed female in with the boys! But luckily not the case!

Yeah, the running in the wheel with food always cracks me up. I also love it when they have a treat in their mouth and are desperate to try and take another one of you. Mine get really agitated as they want the second treat but they can't hold two at a time.

LOL! @ Malteser60, I KNOW!! I've had times when all three (pre Reep RIP) would be clamouring for sunflower seeds, and they would take one from me and scream, push and shove with the others while trying to get another into their mouths . . . only to spit out the one they were holding so they could grab another and prevent the other boys from getting it themselves. One of the boys, Peek, will sometimes be VERY picky and will take a seed and toss it out of the cage, doing this with several seeds until he gets the one that is just right. Usually he picks one just in the nick of time, because I'm so frustrated with having seeds thrown back at me I'm about to cut him off. LOL!!

Mine two don't agree where bedding will be. Sefi is carrying it in the hut, while Bambi taking it out and carry it in the top of the cage on the top of another hut But Bambi is really naughty, she may doing it just to teasing. Well, when in the room they both agree that bedding, newspapers and all the other stuff they can carry should be under my bed. Maybe they found out that's hard to reach for me and I'm leaving it there for longer time. The last day I bought a meter of fake fur for their winter comfy and warm bed, I put it on the floor to see if they like it. Bambi was struggling to get it under the bed with full mouth of paper :)She did manage to move it a bit, but was too heavy to manage. Sefi was just trying to burrow herself in it. I guess they like it.
