Hello,
few days ago I noticed that Vana, one of my six year old degus had problems with feeding. I gave her calendula flowers and she really felt like to feed on it, but she couldn't do that. My first idea was to check the teeth... my guess was right. Next day I went to the vet to check her teeth. The vet noticed that one of the front molars grew wrong and injured the tongue of my degu. Finally she (the vet) asked me to treat this malocclusion, I agreed. The vet removed the tooth surgically and I could pick the degu up when I came back from work in the evening. I wasn't shure that she recover well, but when I came, she was fine.
Back in the outdoor enclosure I offered fresh plants for my degus and some time later Vana fed on a dandelion leave. I made a video, here:

David, I am so glad to hear Vana will recover from this. The fact that she is now able to eat must be reassuring to you.
Now that one of the molars is gone, is Vana eating normally, or does she take more time chewing and grinding her food ?

I'm very glad to hear that she seems well after her surgery, and it is really pleasing to see that she is able to eat. It must have felt really good to see that, and she must have been happy about it, too. What a good thing you noticed it!

today I have to go to the vet again. She control the teeth and I assume, that she tells me more in detail what she did. I think she is eating normally, but it is a bit slow of course. Probably she had still some pain from the removed tooth, but I assume that it is much better now. That she eat is for me a positiv sign, so I'm positive too .

Glad to hear about Vanna's teeth.
I must say that I absolutely love the outdoor enclosure, you have very lucky degus!

Thank you! I'm back from the vet. She couldn't remove the tooth and it were two teeth she finally had to grind down, because the teeth were to hard to remove.

It sounds like your vet really knows what they are doing. Looks like Vana really enjoyed those greens. So pleased to hear she is doing well!

Yes she likes it. Eventually I have uploaded some videos from Vana in the transport box on her way to the vet, she is accompanied by Clio her fellow... At the beginning the two were upset and I noticed that Vana did better than the first time: But they got accustomed to the transport box: I recorded the videos in the train... the background noise is an example for Swiss conversation in public transportation .
