To me a Good Degu cage, has lot's of space to run and jump about, play in. to basically have enough room to go crazy. I think this cage looks awful, and in the video one of cages has no water in it which should never happen. It also means the owner probably just leaves water in the bottle and doesn't give them fresh, a lot of pet owners let the water sit for days and don't think to change it unless it's empty.... sometimes I think I over react, what do you guys think.... oh this cage to me has many faults, see if you can spot them all...

Hmm I see what you're saying but my philosophy on life is never judge until you know all the facts. There isn't a true clear shot of the cages to judge the sizes. There could be more substrate on the bottom of what could be a plastic based cage but like I say we don't know the facts. The water bottle we can see does appear empty but who knows there might be a secondary one in place, I hope so. The goos look ok, nice orange teeth but I do understand your concerns. :-)

degualotI understand how you must feel seeing these cages. As blossombrooks mentions, we cannot see the cages completely, but from the video you can tell these cages are sub-standard and very bare. As a very active Youtuber (have been for years) I can tell you, at a point seeing these cages will no longer affect you the same way. There are so many videos (not just degu videos) of rodents and small animals, even fish, being kept in tiny, cramped and inhumane conditions. Instead I try to focus on the positive...and there has been lots of positive things stirring up on Youtube this past year. Much like on the forum, there has been a large spike of cage building activity and DIY projects going on. I get messaged almost everyday about building degu cages and have found much enthusiasm from degu owners worldwide. You will find a lot of negative/sub-standard things on Youtube and on the web in general, but we must focus on the good and keep doing so. If you stop at everything you see, you will become discouraged. That is how I view things anyway. Seeing inadequate housing for any type of animal makes me very sad.
