www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCZpFAZYdwYThis is a video I took of Moose today...he goes crazy whenever I put oats in front of him. Especially if I put my hand in the cage where Rocket is around too...then he gets all protective over the oats..and they both do this Isn't this like an alarm call type sound?? or am I wrong Why is he doing this? lol is it just pure excitement?? Do any of your degus do this??? He only does this with oats though =P

I think it must be due to pure excitement and delight. It isn't what I would call characteristic of degus. When my boys are really enthused about something I am giving them they do one of two things. 1. They curse at each other while trying to shove all other takers away from my hand. It sounds between a growl and a low shriek of sorts. 2. They warble at me, and it is a very gentle, almost musical sound that is very appealing and cute. Moose however did not have the usual up bringing, so he is not conversant with the sounds that make up the vocal repertoire of the degu species. That being the case, I think he is doing the best he can with all that he knows. Rocket doing it too . . . well . . . maybe he is speaking Moose's' particular and unique dialect?
