Hi
I am pleased to say that we went through the same routine again last night (Bert having 5 minutes out on his own). He played happily - even climbing up onto my shoulder!!
We then let Ernie out and they played happily together - Bert being chased by Ern and squealing in excitement.
They sat calmly and had their oats (Bert was wiggling his tail, which I took to be a good sign). They then had another sand bath and went back to their cage (where poor Ern went to sleep!).
We have had no biting of the cage bars and no ambushing Ern when in his wheel. In fact, last night and this morning we had synchronised wheel running (each one in their own John Hopewell wheel!!)
I am totally ecstatic and just hope that this will last.
My husband says that he had a 'quiet word' with Bert and warned him that I was going to take him to the vets to have 'the chop' if he didn't behave!!
As strange as it sounds, I think it could be down to Bert not having any dried peas since Saturday!
Chatting with hubbie at the weekend, we discovered that not only was he giving the boys a breakfast treat when he got up - I was giving them one when I left for work! Then I would give them another one when I got in from work and so was he. Finally, he would give them a supper treat and I was too. As Bert will only eat the dried flat peas, he was having anywhere between 6 - 8 a day! So, we came to an agreement and the boys were only allowed two treats a day (and not the same thing).
Saturday was the last time that Bert had a dried pea and by Sunday evening we had noticed the difference in him.
I know that human behaviour can be affected by food - so surely it's feasible that animals can be too?
Of course, I could be completely wrong - but if Bert continues to behave like he is, I don't care. I am just glad to have my little man back.
A trip to the vet is definitely out of the question too!!
