Here's my little boy taco, he makes this sound quite a lot when he wants my attention. He's been in his own cage for 3 weeks now after a huge fight with his brother which i'm taking steps into getting back together. anyway I know a little about degu sounds but when I looked this sound up, the sound description on Degutopia said that pups make this sound but he's just turned 1 year old. any ideas?

I have honestly never heard these sounds from a degu. Hopefully, someone on here will be able to tell you something useful about the noises Taco is making.

Our boys sometimes make this noise, most notibly Reepicheep who recently passed. It has usually seemed to me to be a noise of welcome and I want to be with you. Lots of times when I have heard this noise, I usually end up getting a grooming on my ears or the sides of my head. I have imitated this sound back to them, and now most of the time they will come to check me out if I use it. Although lately, if I don't have food to give them, they will just walk away again. Cheeky little monkeys!

It sounds a lot similar to the Bubbling or Purring noise (click and have a listen) that Guinea Pigs makes. I remember my two Guinea Pigs often make the above noise (which sounds quite similar) when they were being held and petted, generally showing they're excited and happy to be with you. It's possible that it's a similar noise for goos, as a sort of "I'm so happy to be with you! I love you!" and a sign that they're really enjoying being in your company. I remember when my boys were going through their rough patch of puberty, when Mario got really really hurt and I took him out, sat with him and gently stroked him - he made that sound. Like he was thanking me for taking him out and spending time with him. Just a guess, but it definitely seems plausible.

It's not just the same, but Bambi is making similar noises when something minor is wrong on wants something. Everytime I clean the cage and remove the bedding, she complains with similar sounds. She stops when fresh bedding is in. Sometimes I don't find any reason, but she can make that sounds all day long. Stupid me I have no idea what she wants I tried a lot of things, but for a day she make similar sounds, the difference is, she puts some higher patched squeaks in at time to time. And next day she's fine. maybe your goo is trying to tell that he wants something. If you find out what it is, tell me too

Ah pepper used to 'talk' like this, mostly when her and daisy weren't seeing eye to eye. She'd sit near me and just mutter away to me. I used to like to think she was telling me about her day and also telling tales on Daisy, lol. She stopped after a while and seemed to chatter to Daisy more which is better for their bonding but I do miss our chats! Just give him lots of attention and talk gently back to him. :-)

The missus said she's noticed our boys making that sound each time one of them scouts the big playground and heads back to the others. It always looks like he's saying "Hey guys, you should check out the cool stuff they set up for us!"
So it could be something chatty.

maybe it's because he's still seperated from his brother and he's saying. "Hey i'm good now, I don't have a problem with the guy, seriously we can work this out." haha
