We've had our goos just over a year, we had them from pets at home. I've been reading bits on the site and wanted to check what we have in there is ok. We have wood pellet cat litter on the bottom of the cage and use hay for their bedding aswell as for them to eat. They seem happy with it and usually scrape up all the hay and take it into their house. Just wasn't too sure if we should have been using something else for bedding and just using the hay for food.

Hi Lee,
The wooden pellets are very dangerous for degus as if ingested they will swell and could cause blockages.
The best substrate to use is the wooden shavings, my guys have a few inches of substrate so that they can bury/forage.
Hay can be used for food and bedding, you will find that your degus will choose what they use and where, rather than you!
Do you have any pictures? We love pictures here!
;D

Ooh ok will stop using the cat litter, this is what was suggested by pets at home but I've since learnt they don't really know their stuff about these little beasties. One of ours has a breathing issue at the moment but I have put another thread up about that, although he doesn't seem to be getting much better :-( I've got some pics will get some up when I get chance as my phones not letting me attach them. Hoping to get a bigger cage once we move out as space is limited atm due to having them in the bedroom

Finacard is another popular substrate. It comes in a massive bale and lasts for ages, plus it keeps any smell at bay very well.
What are the dimensions of your cage?
