Hello everybody, this is aimed at everyone who has made their own cage, I was just wondering how much your cage cost you personally to build in total.
Also which materials you used, whether you used pine or plywood and whether you used glass for the doors or plexiglass or whether you made wooden doors with wire mesh on and how big you made the cage.
Thankyou in advance for any replies!
Phil.

Our cage would have cost less than 100 pounds, here it was just under 200 Canadian dollars. We used plywood for the cage shell, and kiln dried pine boards for the levels and the edge surrounding each level (to keep the substrate contained). We recycled some of the wire from our original cage to make hinged doors from. Our cage . . . if I can remember is 155 cm tall, 64 cm deep, and 164 cm wide . . . give or take on the height and width. I should look it up. LOL! It is something around that. Almost the biggest piece of furniture in the house!! LOL!

Lol, thanks for the reply DC! I'm thinking of getting a bit handy once my mum has her new house (with garage) as I've nowhere to make one at the moment, my dads house is full of years worth of clutter.

Thanks for posting this Phil. This is something I'd be interested in knowing too as I'm going to be building three cages just as soon as money permits.

Hello Amie, I just thought it would be useful, of course you could just look up all the bits and bobs you'll need and work out a total, but that doesn't take into account the mistakes you might make and the little hidden costs you might come across. I really need less messy cages! Lol theres more megazorb on my bedroom floor than there is on their cage floors! The little hooligans. I'm hoping to start construction as soon as I have a new job, but the hunt isn't going well hopefully at the least I can get a christmas temp job to help fund it.

If you're desperate for a job, casinos are always hiring. It is night work though.

My cage cost between £100 - £150 but it does take up two thirds of one side of my room and is split into 3 cages. It's all made out of MDF with pine around the shelves. I have wire mesh on the doors because it really keeps the price down! It means bedding still ends up on the floor but no where near as much! It's 2cm x 2cm square mesh something like that so actually it keeps a lot more of the bedding in but visibility isn't as good but it's an excuse to get them out even more We looked at glass and other stuff for the doors but it was just taking the price up way too much and so it was easier to just go with mesh to stick to our sort of budget
