I am so sorry for your loss! The shock must be huge! Saffron being the poorly one, Phoenix being the company for the trip, you would never have anticipated that something so painful would result. I expect that today is a rather long and sorrowful day. Again, I am so very sorry!

This is such a sad story, I am so sorry for your loss. But you should not feel guilty or responsible in any way!! It is often a good idea and advised to take the group of degus along to the vet even if only one of them is to be treated. Had you asked beforehand, that's what we would in all likelihood have told you. Nobody could have anticipated what happened.
I hope that Saffron will get better soon!

I meant to reply to this before...I'm so sorry for your loss. You did the right thing taking Saffron as company/comparison and had no idea what the outcome could be. It is just a sad awful thing that you could do nothing about unfortunately.
RIP Phoenix...

I'm so sorry to hear about Phoenix, that's the last thing you expected. It sounds like Phoenix was on borrowed time but nothing could have alerted you to this. I would also have advised you to take Phoenix to the vet with Saffron for comparison and to reduce the stress for Saffron, and Phoenix as well as sometimes the smell from the vets on a degu can stress the other degus that have been left behind once the degu comes back from the vets.
Hope you and Saffron are ok and coping without Phoenix.
