Hi, I have 4 degus, all in a large cage 700mm x 400mm x 1.4m and they seem happy in there. I know they should have time out side the cage, I have tried letting them run around the living room, which didn't really work out too well. Where do other people let Degu's out to play? Can you make or buy a Degu run?

You certainly can make a run though not sure you'd be able to buy a very good degu proof run as runs tend to be too small from pet stores anyway.
Your cage measurements are slightly confusing at first as you don't mention which dimension is which lol. I imagine the 140cm is the length and the 40cm the depth and the 70cm the height? Do you have much shelving? My degus have 150cm (l), 50cm (d), 100cm (h) and I only have 2 and they easily fill that space.
I say this because maybe extend your cage to have a perma-run attached to it? A place you can join them but a place they cannot escape from. That, to me, sounds like a good idea. ;D

thanks for the reply, I have tried to add a picture of the cage.
The size is 700mm (l) x 400m (d) x 1.4m (h) with 4 levels.
I think I will probably have to build a run, I just hoped some one would say oh yes yu can buy one from . . . . . .. at a very reasonable price.

A lot of pet store ones they can jump over easily (even baby degus!)
An example here.
You could probably make one cheaply with MDF and some hinges. Then perhaps metal line any exposed edges? Or even check ebay they do have some good resources for more custom built stuff.
Someone here may have a better idea. I personally just give my degus "their own room" so they can come out and I don't worry about them wrecking anything.
Oh also nice cage! Looks pretty fun. ;D
Actually degutopia I recall have an excellent picture of a pen they made I'll find it and post it.
