pretty sure one of my girls pregnant (she's way fatter than her sister of the same age) in view of this I bought a terracota planter last week so she could a proper nest that I didnt have to disturb (up until now it has either been bendy wooden sticks made into a shelter or they did like their big chube for a while, I modified a sea grass hanging basket which they destroyed in a week and then it was a "good" cardboard box which whilst they gnawed a back door in they did nest really well in it again lasted a week lol it was only ever temp until i sorted something else)
so last week with the terracota planter I covered a part of it with coco moss so there was a more sheltered bit but i could see, lined it with a little sawdust then some coco moss then lots of bedding coco moss came straight out (without moving the bedding somehow) put a couple of cardboard tubes in cage stuffed with more bedding in the hopes of a chew and move manouver and all they are doing is sleeping on a ledge together no nesting going on at all just mega amount sof bar twanging that I am tryign to stop in various ways to no avail.
I'm worried she'll give birth randomly in the cage and the babies will be in a suspended tube or something
any ideas on encouraging nesting?

I wouldn't worry - mine rarely use a nest box, I would always find them in a goo-pile on a ledge. I had no idea that one of mine was pregnant - looking back they had started using a cardboard box a bit more and when I came to clean the cage I almost threw away the babies as I had no idea they were there. Degus are amazing parents and will find somewhere safe to have their babies.

Also they seem to prefer nest building if you leave the bedding i a heap on the cage floor, rather than placing it in the pot.

I really wouldn't take it personally smux, the amount of times I've had that done to me, as the saying goes if I had a penny...
