the oldest of my 3 goos Eric seems to have a balding tip on his tail, despite this he seems just as active and healthy as ever, is this just something that happens or should I be worried?

Hi, it could be overgrooming. Have u noticed the others chewing on eric's tail? If that's the case, all hair will grow back.

Diego my oldest degu has the same issue, it was apparent when we rescued him about 2 years ago. It doesnt seem to bother him and his 2 cage mates have never seemed to cause further baldness. The hair hasnt grown back though, just a white tip at the end of his tail, his tail does appear shorter than the others so I assumed he had lost part of his tail by being grabbed at by inexperienced handlers.

Azure, one of four degus I adopted a couple of weeks ago, also has a balding tail as well as a lump about one inch from the end. Other than that, she is active and seems healthy. The OHS estimated that she is around three years old. I am keeping a close watch on her.

We got 4 girls and when we got them, only Stripes had a "bald spot" on her tail. Now its only Sasha who dont have a baldspot. I sat watching them fuss around with eachother and its just that they overgroom their tails, atleast with our goos. They are not bothered at all as far as I can tell, lol, but none of them would be fit for a degu show (Well Sash would, shes gorgeous. Long whiskers and really nice fluffy tail) I wouldnt worry to much if I were you. Unless you see bloodspots around the cage, then you might have to find the one whos bleeding and clean the tip of the tail

When I took on Sparkle he had a bald tail, I never expected it to return, but 3 months of good diet and lots of love he left my care last weekend with a lovely little pom pom and tail hair almost fully restored (he too had a white tip at one point)
