Re: Brownie & Wolfie, 2yr old male degus.
Dear Anyone who adores Degus, please read on...;
We fostered two gorgeous degus last year, after a friend of ours discovered his son was allergic to them. We had often thought about getting degus ourselves, but already had 3x gerbils who we'd adopted as unwanted and our dog Phoebe.
So when our friend pleaded with us we agreed to take them on. We've had them for 10months & it's amazing how attached you become. We absolutely love them so much. But we just don't give them the time they need & deserve. For example: In the evenings we walk the dog twice, get the female gerbils out, then Oscar (our boy gerbil), then Brownie & Wolfie. It takes so much time up, and if we don't do it they are miserable. 2 weeks ago, over night it seemed, Brownie suddenly got a small bald patch on his back. When i looked on the net, it was suggested it could be over-grooming from being bored. Please believe me when i say this; to think that we have them couped up and not giving them enough time, to the point that they over-groom, makes me feel sick
For the past 6months my hubby & i have been deciding for & against rehoming them, but we've finally decided - it's time to find them a new home
They have the standard cage which you might know

we have lots of bits and pieces and accessories too. When we received Brownie & Wolfie into our home they came with a nasty plastic running ball which their little feet slipped through, it was useless so that's long gone in the bin.
The best value purchase we made for them was their running wheel. It is 12" galvanised steel, custom made one which cost £50 (inc p&p), please have a look here...

Brownie & Wolfie absolutely love it, they are on it all the time, even when we've had them out for 1.5hrs running around our spare room, as soon as the are back in their cage they are straight on the wheel. It's perfectly designed IMO; their little feet don't get caught on any wires (the wheel is solid, no wires) and it's big enough that they can run two abreast, it's so delightful to watch! ;D
The best loving home is welcome to everything we have bought for them; or if it is a degu rehoming centre/rescue centre we are happy to make a donation along with taking our boys on. If you think you fit the bill, we are of course, absolutely more than happy to drive to where you are - infact, it's better that way because then we can meet you and make sure you're genuine and not going to keep them in a basement or locked away or something!
Hoping very much to hear from a prospective new Mum or Dad,
Kind regards,
Leanne
