well tried again today and wasn't good, Lou and Soo are fine with each other but I think Soo has taken a dislike to Coleen The have a boxing match which I leave to let them settle it but then Soo kicks out with her back legs into Coleens Stomach at which point I stop it, they'll be fine with each other and then they will start all over again boxing. Then after Soo starts making a repeated squeaking noise about 5 short squeaks in quick succession then pause then another 5 then pause and it sounds like a sad squeak so after a cuddle i put her back in and she seems ok but again Coleen and oo have a boxing match. Going to give it another couple of days and if still the same will try Soo with Dexter and Abi

Don't give up on them too quickly, MJ. It can take a while sometimes, weeks even, but they will get there. Soo is totally adorable, and she is just trying to find her place in the pecking order. I am certain she knows that Coleen is top goo, so she is just making her bid for the position. Once she knows it's not up for the taking, she'll settle in and all with be good! They are so sweet all together.

I watched it through a few times and was unable to turn up my volume enough to hear her, but I could see her chirping. Or is that her? Looks like a cataract in her right eye. Even though I can't hear it, her body language makes me think she is feeling sad. I wonder if she is calling for her lost companions from before . . . if being with Louise and Coleen makes her think of them somehow? It could be that it is just going to take her a while to full bond and adjust to her new situation, but I think she will make it alright. Give her lots of time with Loo and Col and lots of love from you guys as well. Poor little Sue . . . she is come through some big changes. Do you ever let her run around inside a sweater you are wearing? It may not do for her what it does for my boys, but when they seem kind of out of sorts, scared or upset or whatever, I put them inside my sweater and let them snuggle up and they perk up pretty quick and just seem to feel better all the way around.

It did sound like a very sad sound to be honest and it only happens when she and coleen have a boxing match so I assumed she was upset that Col was being aggresive with her, her and Lou are absolutly fine with each other. It would make sense that being with Lou and Col remind her of her past cage mates but I shall persevere as I am determined she will not live on her own. I did pick her up and give her a cuddle when she was making that noise to try and cheer her up and it did stop but when she made it for a second time I made the decision she had had enough and wanted out to chill. Going to try them again tonite whislt I clean the cages and again tomoz nite and again friday but I am away on friday night till sunday so will give them a break. I'm hoping that I can try Dexter and Abi with them too.....providing Dexter stops sneezing, he's been on a course of antibiotics for a week with no sign of the sneezing stopping and he now sounds bunged up, and it aint just the odd sneeze, he has sneezing fits of about 5 sneezes every 5 mins or so...got him booked in at the vets again after work so will see what he says.

WOW! That does sound concerning. I hope he, Dexter, will quickly get resolved after seeing the Vet again. By now you have probably been to see the Vet . . . what did he/she do or suggest?
I hope the meeting between your little goo ladies goes well for all of them!

Well took Dexter to the vet and his lungs and chest are clear but he is still sneezing......but he's happy and eating and drinking normally. Got another course of baytrill to give him for a week. I'm wondering if the shelves I bought from Homebase are not as kiln dried as they should be (and dexter is a champion shelf mucher) so I'm going to source some kiln dried pine from a timber yard to swap them for and see if that helps. On another note since we had dexter and abi in the carry cage after the vets we decided to try Soo with them instead with the view of adding Lou and Coleen later as I cleaned them out BUT it went so well with Dexter Abi and Soo, bearing in mind Abi hates coleen i thought it best not to add them and when Abi went up to Soo to begin with i was worried BUT she sat there and started to groom Soo and Soo groomed Abi, then Dexter got involved.....was a beautiful sight plus there was no boxing matches and no sad squeaks from Soo so I think that I'll keep trying them instead (I know what dexter has isn't contagious as Abi does not sneeze at all). Coleen and Lou are fine as a pair however Coleen has started being a bit of a bully when it comes to food/treats and there has been a few boxing matches but Lou is such a submissive goo she just runs away so got to keep an eye on that.

I'm glad Dexter has an all clear on his lungs and chest. That is a relief. I agree with you, the wood could be what it contributing to his sneezing. It will be interesting to see what happens once you have swapped them out for kiln dried ones.
How wonderful that things went so well having Abi, Dexter, and Soo altogether! That is a sweet thing to hear, and I bet you were thrilled as you watched. I was afraid that it might be overwhelming to be introduced to so many other degus, but it sounds like it all went very well. I really hope that Soo will bond with them! Can't believe the attachment I feel for this little goo! She is in a good place!!

Well I'm going to work on Soo Dexter and Abi and if all goes well and they bond then I may try introducing Lou and Coleen at a later date but little at a time lol. I'm going to pop down to the saw mills this weekend and grab some proper kiln dried pine and get the cage sorted so will see what happens.

Hey Mark - thank you so much for posting all these pics and vids, it's wonderful to be able to see how my lil soo is getting on with her new buddies, even if it doesn't look quite as positive with regards Lou and Coleen at the moment. I've had a listen to the last video to her squeaking - it's not a squeak I've heard her make before I'm afraid, so I'm guessing it's a response to the other goos or the situation. At the risk of preaching to the converted, have you tried rubbing vanilla essence into your hands before handling each of the goos to be introduced? That was the way I finally managed to introduce Soo and Rita to Bobs, as a few drops in the sandbath didn't appear to be neutralising the smells enough. Please keep us updated, I'm sure Soo will be happy with whichever group she bonds best with, but for now I expect it's just nice to have the company of fellow goos around her that she can chatter to. Really pleased she's with you, totally appreciate the effort and perseverence you're putting in. xxx p.s. Soo's never been bothered with that pink and green tube, but I loved seeing Lou making the most of it in the tub!
