Well today was the day that dexter, gabi and abi moved in together and so far so good. There was a bit of boxing between abi and dexter but now any time dexter goes to groom abi she squeaks turns round and offers herself to dexter by putting her bum in the air lol. Hope they are all going to live together ok Gabi is a hell of a lot more active than I have ever seen her now which is good, and since I have started putting brewers yeast and vit c powder in thier food her breathing is no where near as bad so fingers crossed it is working

WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL on both accounts! I'm so glad they are getting along well! That must be such a great relief to you. Abi sounds like a precocious little girl. What an attitude! LOL! Hopefully they will find their way to a balance that is steady and long standing. Dexter must think he is in heaven! ;D I'm thrilled (WOO HOO) to hear that the brewers yeast and Vit C seem to be contributing to better lung health! That is something to keep in mind, especially for those owners whose degus have recurring RI's. Do you think her increase in activity is due to less strain to breathe, or because she is glad to be in with Dexter . . . or even both? I think I might have to get some granulated brewers yeast for my boys and give them a try on it. They don't have breathing trouble, but hey . . . maybe a little every once in a while would be good for them too!

I think she's more active as she is pleased to be in with dexter, the do love each other, grooming each other at every opportunity and it's so heart warming to see dexter no longer on his own. Coleen has been moved next to them all now so will give it a month before trying her with them again, there was a bit of arguing through the bars between her and dexter tho :$
Going to have to buy a new JH wheel tho, since putting the girls in with Dexter abi has lost all interest in the plastic flying saucer now lol.

LOL! Does that mean she likes the up-grade? I bought a plastic flying saucer for our three boys in the hopes that they would love it . . . so far it makes a good occasional eating location, and it is handy to hide behind when my daughter is trying to catch one of them. No running on it though, and I so SO wanted to see them running on it!!! I keep hoping . . . but they better catch on soon because they are going to chew the base to extinction before very long.

im going through a massive bonding session at the moment with boys. bill cumin and thyme attacked each other and now hate each other. i had to separate them all into 3 cages as they'd ripped each others throats! i put bill in with chive and parsley after 2 days and all went well until this morning when bill started attacking them! i sectioned him in a cage all by himself and put him in a quiet dark room all alone. he was only there for the day and when i put him back with parsley and chive tonight he was a changed goo! when ursula and levi wanted to kill each other i had levi in the spare cage in that room all alone for 2 days and when i brought her back she didnt pay any attention to ursula whatsoever! we're trying this with thyme now ready for his big intro in 2 days - so i think we found a winner - thanks to deguconvert who suggested this! im still in shock that it worked so i thought i'd pass this on to you as you could try putting coleen in a separate room for a few days and then put her back next to dexter and co and see what happens. if they still bicker try putting dexter and co in the quiet room. hope all goes well for you!

I'm glad it is working for you, Gemma. I recommended it because you were getting into the extreme case. Not a whole lot will work once you start seeing that kind of blood shed. You may find that you have to do it a couple more times, and if I were you I would keep a very close eye on them. At the first indication of violence, separate out whoever you think is the instigator and put them in "solitary confinement" again. Sometimes they need the reminder of how nasty it is to be alone.

well there is no more aggression between the bars now, I think she really wants to join in with the other 3 as she is constantly on a shelf which is at the same point as on in the 3s cage and anytime one of them is next to her she chatters and warbles away to them, poor thing seems lonely now so will give it a couple of weeks and try the whole bath scenario again see how it goes.

Sounds like things are going well. You may be able to move even quicker . . . maybe in a weeks time. You'll be able to know as the days pass.
It seems cruel in a sense to impose the loneliness on them, but it helps so much to bring about the best end result for them. They will be much happier all together than they are separated.
