I have two male degus that are about two years old. They are both neutered and get along great. Yesterday a "friend" of mine decided that she didn't want her trio of degus any more (she's only had them for a few months) and figured that "since I already had some" that I could take them. She didn't know their genders or ages but they are still pretty small. So, I now have three young degus, that I am almost 100% sure are all female, in the tiny cage she was keeping them in (I think that it was designed for hamsters! ). Now, my boys live in a very large cage that could probably house six or seven degus comfortably. What I am wondering is if I can introduce the three girls to my boys? I know that males would usually fight over females but the fact that my boys are neutered and that there would be more females than males in the equation has made me hopeful. I haven't got the money to buy another cage at the moment and I'm loathe to dump the girls in a petshop/shelter where they'll probably rot. What do you guys think?

in their natural habitat the males would fight for the power tp reproduce with all the females so that wouldnt make a diffrence. but because they are neutered i personally think it wouldnt be a problem. my advise would be to keep them in the smaller cage for a few days and place it near the boys cage and then just observe them. naturally simply being in the same room as the females would usually make non-neutered males fight as they could smell them but only time will tell.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Give it a go and let us know what is happening!
