Just thought I'd post as there's been a little progress with my boys For the last couple of weeks I've been opening the cage door and standing with my arms folded (like a little shelf) in front of it. I usually wear a nice cosy hoody too so it's nice and comfortable for them. Anyway, Turtle is the more confident of the two, Squirrel is very shy and an exercise freak (loves his wheel). At first, Turtle would just sniff a bit, and Squirrel would completely ignore me. Gradually, Turtle started to climb onto me, but at first would run back into the cage after just a couple of seconds. Now, Turtle jumps out onto me almost straight away, and will sit on me for a few minutes while sniffing around. Squirrel's still very shy but did actually climb onto me for a little bit today, so he's coming round

HOORAY!!! Keep it up, and good things will keep on coming. It really does take time, but it is so worth it.

When I adopted my 2 girls, I was told they dont like men.......after 4 months of constant interaction with them my husband can now open the cage and they run up on his shoulder like they do with me. He has never had degu's or knew what they were till I introduced him to these 2, as mine passed away before we moved in together. He is totally converted now. LOL.

What an excellent story! I'm so glad you have put it in. We need to hear of each others sucesses, as it encourages us to press on and have hope.

mine have become even more tame the past month or so. they always liked running on me, but never felt safe enough to cuddle with me. now, sometimes one will run onto my hand, make himself comfortable, and just lie there, like they do together. if i shift a little (it gets uncomfortable in the same position after a while), he wakes up a bit, looks around, and goes right back to snoozing. i was so happy the first time he woke up after about 20 mins, had a nice stretch and a yawn, and hopped into his cage again
