Ok I'm in one of my odd moods but it's not moving anywhere.
I want a new something to take care of.. and I was thinking about getting a snake but then having kept rodents for a long time I don't think I could cope with feeding. And then I noticed two dumbo rats that need a home. I've had rats, but not dumbo before. And I keep thinking about them.
Obviously I wouldn't put a rat with a degu, but do you think the goos would object to the rats being there? I don't want to risk any aggro with Bu and Ice, I'm hoping all of that is in the past now.

We have rats and degus, and my boyfriend's even introduced them to each other, and they really just give each other a little sniff, then ignore each other. One of the rats even climbed into their cage and the degus didn't even seem to care.
We may have just been lucky, but I don't think there should be any problems.

I'm hoping so too as the rats arrived last night.. They need to go on a diet quite badly though, think they've been a bit too loved... Letting them settle in at the moment, the goos were interested when they arrived but they don't seem too bothered now and they have a fairly similar sleep pattern. Anyhoo.. This is Magic, He's definitely the leader. Apparently she (previous owner) didn't really want this one, was semi guilt tripped by the shop. She said he was hiding at the time and of the two, Magic is going to be the bigger challenge. He's already taken a chunk from my finger. First time I've been bitten by a rat! He's a nice colour, almost black brown, never seen a brown quite so dark. My previous rats were hooded. And this is Jasper Far more friendly, in fact I did handle him when they were dropped off. Gorgeous colouring. That white patch is on his tummy too, very cute. Only problem is Magic is taking control too much and not letting Jasper do much. Will work on this tonight when I give them a run around!

What cuties! I love my ratty men. Our little boy Leo who looks the spitting image of your Magic likes to visit our girl degus and hang out sometimes. They seem to love each other for some weird reason so we let him go and visit them occasionally. Glad some other people have done this too and that I'm not some kind of freak. I wouldn't house them together though. My girls get a bit narky sometimes and I think Leo may want to play fight and get a bashing.

Hooded rats.. This is one - www.mypetrat.com/jackfrost.jpg I've had two of them. Monty was brown (a mix of two browns) and white and Midge was cream and white... she just looked a bit grubby most of the time lol! Well the rats definitely need some play time, got my petshop bringing in rat pellets for me, and I'm going to try the landing as a play area, as long as I can block the banister it should be fine. Rats out first, they'll be easier to find than the goos lol! Now don't laugh at me, I didn't actually take science at school, so if I was to let the rats and goos share playtime.. is there any chance I could get a degu/rat? Just the rats are male and the goos are female. I have a feeling at least one person is laughing at me for asking that...

I'd doubt it would be a problem, I think the species are probably too far apart for that kind of thing... I'm no expert though so I could be completely wrong

We have two dumbo rats and a normal rat at the moment, and to be honest I haven't noticed much difference in intelligence... apparently one of the dumbo rats is even a doctor (I don't know, ask the boyfriend...)
