I don't understand why this is such good news when rescue centres all round the UK are full up with un wanted degus aren't you just adding to the problem???

That's great your introductions went so smoothly, however what do you plan on doing with the baby degus once they are born? Only experienced degu owners should breed degus...and naomi is right, shelters are already full of unwanted degus

How many cages do you have?
Why didn't you get a male for the male?

i dunno, she could have been for real, some degu fanatic, got very serious with me, when i was getting a 36" x 18" x 24" cage from p@h, for some reason he just got quite 'i'm better than you and you don't know nuffin' and said that it was way too small, when, according to this forum it isn't.

She is real. I see quite a lot from her on the breeding section surprisingly.

Hmm.. this is a few months old now but.. I just want to make sure.. You guys did actually know Sophie's background info such as how 'experienced' of a degu owner she was and how much room she actually had for the litter, right? If you posted without any previous knowledge then please, even if you disagree with the situation, try not to do it.. It looks really, really bad when you find threads with 1 person with a seemingly innocent thread/post being completely hammered into the ground by the rest of the forum's users.. Again, I don't feel like reading up on Sophie's previous posts and finding out about her previous experience with degu's, but it doesn't look good... seriously. It makes the forum look rather aggressive and will most probably deter possible newcomers from joining. I'm going to guess that most of you knew what you were talking about when you posted. Edit:- After looking through some of her posts then ok, I can agree with some of you .. but I'm going to leave this post up just because I think a couple people did post without previous knowledge ;p. ( I've also seen this happen countless times before, and decided not to post =/ )

I expected replies like yours.. the point of this is, the true intentions weren't even stated. I'm guessing most people had no clue as to who Sophie was or her experience with caring for Degus. Sophie may have had a group of friends who wanted Degus.. who knows. The point I was trying to make was that everyone needs to chill out a bit. Yes, an inexperienced degu owner breeding is really bad and wrong.. and yes there are plenty to adopt.. but who the hell are we to tell this lady to adopt degus? Ok sure, it shows people care, but I'm just saying, it's a little harsh when someone seemingly new to the forum gets hated on for wanting to share a bit of her life with the forum's users. This has happened in multiple threads and it just isn't nice. And also, I was referring to the last post on this thread being a few months old. Anyway, sorry for any offense I may have caused, I just wanted to say that after refraining a few times >.<!.. Luke~

When talking to another on the forum about a point on which there are strong feelings . . . it helps to type up a rough draft and then come back to it and read it over . . . maybe even have a house mate read it through out loud to you. Then you can hear what inflections they use and what tone is coming through to them in what you wrote. How someone else reads aloud what you have written can really change your impression of how it comes across. It also helps to understand that there are hearts and minds on the other screens reading, and they all deserve respect. Something kindly said may still be reacted to in a hostile way, but that will mostly have to do with the reactee and their history at that point. Then again . . . some things, no matter how kindly spoken, will still cause pain or hostility. "We can no longer afford to pay your salary, we must let you go." "You are a great friend to me and I love being around you, but I really don't want to date you." "You have really bad B.O.!!" "We have loved you from the second we lay eyes on you. No one could have been more perfect than you. But . . . honey . . . we are not your birth parents. We adopted you." SO many things that can hurt no matter how you say them.
I appreciate your discussion on this topic . . . it is something that is very important! The consideration of others, whether you see them, drive past them, email them, phone them, or communicate on a forum, requires conscious effort.

Case closed maybe this topic should get locked since it can only develop into other people's views which could also then lead into an argument which me and Skauwt kind of got into >.<.. I'll keep my thoughts for PM next time ^^, again, I didn't mean to sound offensive and I'm sure nobody else did. As deguconvert said though, nobody is the same and different feelings will be provoked since we can only read the written words and not hear the actual emotion behind the voice, thus understanding the true intentions.
