my goos have gotten really bad with their clothes chewing. i cant even handle them without having my clothes bitten to shreds, so i can only raelly handle them with clothes i wont wear anywhere else.
when they grab on to my clothes and tug ive tried giving them a little rap on the head but it doesnt seem to deter them much..
how do you train them not to do things? i heard with cats you can spray them with water, but since degus are from arid climates i thought that might be bad for their fur.

ive read around more and come to find that degus dont really respond well to any negative reinforcement, is that accurate?
that makes it all the more difficult to train them NOT to do something though...

There are two ways that have proven to be very helpful to many on the forum. 1. A very loud high pitched squeak, repeated every time they do something they shouldn't. 2. A puff of air blown into their face, ditto.
Some goo respond to one better than the other, or both equally well. You just have to try it out and see how you do. Hope one of these will help!

actually now that you mention it i have seen the reaction with the air blowing. a few times ive been moving things into and out of the cage and hyde tries to escape, but with my hands full the only thing i could do was blow at him, and he really didnt like it, ran back inside. the squeaking ive tried a couple times, but only when they were grooming me and ended up biting hard. it kind of works. ill give it some more tries. thanks for the advice!
