Ok due to the size differences of the cages and I don't have a spare cage im really finding it hard for them all to interact George is one side of the cage the girls on the other. Last night I was letting George and Dave's have a play, I had a problem with on of the Dave's attacking Misty stirring her up making her attack George.
So I have been alternating the sand bath between the cages so they all smell the same I was advised not to use any vanilla essence, so im not going to but the method the lady showed me I am unable to get the cages close enough together.
What I am thinking is to let George out at the same time as them and if anything kicks off get George out of their asap. My only concern will be the Dave's and the battles the constantly go through with bonnie on a daily basis. I really don't think they will get along as Bonnie has pushed them to far. So if the worst comes to the worst I would rather separate the Dave's and have George living with chins.
I have never come across any chinchillas that don't even try to get out of a opened cage. I have left the cage door open all morning and Cherry will only stick her head out, while misty won't come anywhere near the door. They only take treats through the bars as well so think I might even have to train them before the introductions to suit us all.

George is castrated poor George ;D . 4 Dave's and George have lived together peacefully for 2 years. If I was to have a successful pairing and if the Dave's still don't get along I am more than happy at separating them so George can live with his own species. Yeah I have signed up to a lot of forums but always get a bit of stick TBH. People do not like chinchillas and degus caged together I personally feel the same but they do actually get on great. Yeah they have their fights etc but what animals don't.

OK I have a had to change my tactics completely and start these 2 girls right at the beginning they are not at any stage to be introduced to any other chinchillas.
Every time I go into the room I have been opening up the cage and feeding them pellets and treats. I was thinking about completely removing the food bowl during the hours of the day I am around. I would obviously put it back when I go to bed.
what do you think about doing that?
also with the problems I have with cage I might swap them all about so I can get them side by side without having a big gap.

I have some bad news and I have some good news. I will start with bad news and not so good news.
OK I thought this might me a bit of long shot but I thought I would risk it due to them all having a completely different personalities and just new cage by side wouldn't work with this lot so I let the chinchillas all out at the same time. Now this is the bad part I caught my finger on the outside of George's cage and the thin bit of wire went half way down my nail. Ouch.
This is the good news they seem to be getting alog great having a them first interact in a neutral place paid of not once did they really get aggressive towards each. I did let George out with Misty the naughty girl first.
Now the not so good news I caught George pinning Misty up against the wall doing her. A second later she is back in the cage teary eyes and laying on her side. Im glad he has been castrated or has he. Must check with vets but am 100% sure unless it was Georgie neutured which I doubt it.
I really wanted to put George in their cage to see how they react but Chloe wasn't having any of it. ;D
Oh have you ever seen a chinchilla climb up a wall Spider-Chin ;D
Fingers crossed I have the same out come tomorrow I might even put George in with them.

LOL!! Sounds like George was letting Misty know who really is the boss, after she bruised his calm the other day. Dispite the "ravishing" of Misty, it sounds promising for their future as companions in the same cage. Heres hoping with you that tomorrows meeting goes even better.

Yeah really hope it goes well today im going to do the same and let them meet on neutral ground. I have been letting George out first because he is a wimp ;D and hopefully it gave the impression that its his territory. If everything looks like it's going ok im going to put George in their cage it will be a lot easier for me to get him out of their if anything goes wrong than his cage. If all goes plan I might try them same approach with Dave's but possibly let them out individually while George,Cherr and Misty are playing. Wish me luck I think I might need it with the Dave's

Hopefully they get a long I really need their Johnhopewell cage gone I just don't have the space for it. I really don't know what im going to do if the Dave's don't get on obviously I would ending up separating them but couldn't put the up for rehoming. I would feel to bad for them and their original owner, like I let her down

Things didn't go so well tonight but its my own fault so will have to try again tomorrow.
I let George out for his 1 hour play time and see Misty was awake so I opened up the cage and got her out. George and Misty running around playing no fighting going on so was getting my hopes up. Next thing I know George jumps in the Cherry's cage while she is sleeping. George goes up to her gives her a little kiss, this spooks her and she starts attacking George. He then runs away down a big chube to where he finds Misty who then starts to attack. George gets scared and runs and jumps on my lap and wouldn't get off. As soon as I put him on the floor he would jump straight back up, after the second time he was shaking so I put him back in his cage.
Misty goes into the cage aminute later she is a sleep. Now Cherry is pacing backwards and forwards along the wall. Goes in the chube for about 5 minutes then does the same again. So I put her back in the cage.

I thought things was looking better today until Misty attacks George really bad and has biten a lot of furr of him in acouple secons till he managed to get away and jump into my hands. I have just given him a treat so he feels a bit better. I know its a bit soon but I don't think I want to try anymore and scar him for life. So I am going to get him a baby kit or 2. I will have to see over the next few days. I really don't know what to do with Misty and Cherry rehoming them is probably a option.

Its a shame things aren't working out for George. Why don't you speak to the breeder and explain the situation. Did she ask that if you are to rehome that you give them back to her?

Yeah she did say about that but I couldn't take them back to her. But I really should have looked into it a bit more instead just rushing into things. Yeah I think I am going to ask a family member to take them on. At least that way I still get to see them.
I really do feel sorry to them as I don't think they have ever had any exercise. During play time they don't as much running as big boned George but as soon as the get in the cage they are on their side. Heart beating really fast.
If I didn't have the degus I would have the time to train them up but really don't have the time. How I wish I got 2 x female kits instead.

Awww, that's so hard for George. He must feel completely bewildered. It's too bad Misty is so aggressive. Do you have a relative that would be glad to have them? Will you go back to the same breeder for the kits?

Im trying to convince my brother because when his kids come round they always won't go see the animals. So I have kind of used that against him ;D

LOL! Poor guy!! How can he fight that, huh? I hope that is something that would work out great for all people and animals concerned. Would you buy a kit from the same breeder?

Im not sure this time im going to look into it properly. I might have to call/go see a load of different breeders. But I think I would rather get a kit from a hobby breeder or someone who only has a couple so they have had a lot of attention and are really friendly. I was speaking to a couple a pet shop the other day they have 2 pairs of chinchillas and thier kits are so friendly due to having a lot of time on thier hands to cuddle and play with a kit.I just haven't got 4 hours a day which I would like to play with a new kit. But I didn't really want to pay £120 each what the pet shop was charging for them. Then I would have to buy a cage/toys etc so would have cost me a fair few pound but I can't really afford it haven't worked for nearly 2 weeks.
