Hey guys! just wanted ur opinion. When I got my chin the other day i asked the lady at the exotic pet shop (who keeps chins herself) about whether this cage would be big enuff. She said the bigger the better but yes he would be ok as long as he got out a lot. She has sold these cages for chins before. It looked big enuff in the shop but now ive got it home its smaller than my degu cage He's ok in it at the mo at 4 months but im unsure how much more he is guna grow in the next few months. Its really getting me down esp cos it was a lot of money. Our cage looks a big more intersting than the one in the pic cos ive changed the shelves around and added toys n house for him Im playing on buying a wheel for him in the next few days. What do u all think? www.petcentreonline.co.uk/ecommerce/Scripts/prodView~idproduct~1051.htm

Hi Kimberley personally i wouldn"t i have 8 chins and they love to climb why dont you have a look at John Hopewell he"s great and caters for Degus and Chins all mine have them and there cheaper www.johnhopewell.co.uk thinking about it after looking at the piccy you have shown i"d check the Height dimensions with the company because that would make it quite tall not sure whether they have got it right

oh n the other thing is...Junior one of my goos doesnt have much longer to live according to the vet. I think when that happens it'll be kinder to give Dobby to a new home with other male degus as he's ony still a baby - that'll leave me with the big cage that i could use for Mogli. How do chins cope with the wire mesh in cages? a lot of the cages i see on the net have the mesh - doesnt it cause bumble foot like in degus?

As a chinchilla rescue we know Mesh floored cages especially made for chinchillas are vital care for chinchillas, as long as they have plenty of wooden shelving and toys, the mesh floors help keep them healthy and happy, stops their fur getting ruined/damaged, chinchillas must not be able to sit in their own mess this can cause all sorts of health problems(including fur fungus and ringworm), a cage with a pull-out drawer or as some people call them drop trays are the very best you can give your chinchilla. John Hopewell are the best ones you can buy online or Thickets cages which are available in pets@home although their style has changed recently John Hopewell link for you www.johnhopewell.co.uk/default.asp?template=productlist.page.xml&CategoryId=2

Thank you joeychinchilla. Ive added extra shelves and hammocks/toys to his cage above and he seems to be doing well but once ive save my pennies im looking to get a john hopewell cage for him - ive already got a great cage for my degus from him.
