Right, so the summary so far: - Spotted degus in pet shop and fell in love.
- Researched degus.
- Bought degus.
- Discovered that the degus are scared to death of me.
- Gradually won them round with sunflower seeds
- Wasted all the progress I had made, and acquired a deep puncture wound in my forefinger and thumb, whilst catching degus to clean out cage.
- Bled a lot. Ow.
- Spent the next week working hard to get their trust back,
- Spent about 1 hour with them today incuding cleaning their cage out with them still in it!
- Success, they are making friends with me again!
- Smiled a lot.
Now it is time to start rebuilding my relationship with my girlfriend who has decided that I spend more time with the degus than with her!

So glad for you that the goos are making friends with you again!!
Is your girlfriend interested in the goos at all? Not that being interested in the goos will make her feel like she is getting enough of you . . . LOL!! I hope you, and sweetie, and goos all have excellent successes with each other in the week ahead.

Its gradually getting better and better ;D Each of them climbed onto my hand today to get some food. And two of them actually sat there and ate it if I put up a little resistance when they tugged at it. And the same two tolerated a little finger stroking! * If I leave them alone for a few hours then the next time I go into their room (yes, it has already become their room!) they still dash around madly, as if I am a threat. But each time it takes less work to get them to come and say hello And now they are all a bit friendlier, I'm in the odd position of having to fend them off sometimes. I have this fear that if they decide to jump out of the cage I'll have the same problem I had before where the only way I can get them back in the cage will involve a great deal of lunging and grabbing (and biting!) Obviously I don't want that, so until I am completely confident that they will get back on my hand when I need them to, I can't let them actually get near the door of the cage when it's open. SO, for a short time I am / will be in an odd position of being scared of the fact that they are getting more tame! That sounds weird, I hope it made sense. * As you may have guessed, I can't tell them apart visually yet so I haven't named them yet. They are currently known as 1, 2 and 3 or sometimes "scared one", "braver one" and "bravest one"

haha thats cute
my goos were like that for the first few months really, and now, they dnt even flintch if me or my boyfriend go near the cage.its guttin that i have to part wirh them in the next two weeks.
soonenough ur goos will start to see u as part of the furniture, they will start to talk to you, let you hold them for ages and kiss them, ul be able to let them run around ur room and they wont mind being caught. its all part of the love that they give and recieve .
