Hey all! We finally had to separate our degus. After a two week stretch of peace and love, all out war broke out once again, and poor Peek was bleeding again. So! Before he could get into bad shape (he had healed up and was gaining weight and size), we bought another cage and separated the two brothers from the oldest of our three, Reep. Their cages sit side by side, and I was hoping that the separation would allow for better feelings to develop. In the course of the week they have been separated though, there is fighting abundant through the bars. I guess better feelings are NOT coming. Bad news though . . . now the two brothers are beginning to squabble! No blood drawing, but boy do they get angry! They box then run to opposite corners squealling and shaking. Hmmm! I hope they will get over it! As an aside . . . about the marking of territory. My degu's wee on me a LOT! It seems as though they do the "wee waddle" all the time. Are they marking me too? Would they be considering me their territory and so fighting over me sometimes? LOL Vain thought to think I know, but sometimes I can't help but wonder. I'm beginning to think I need to find a way to weave some shirts out of shavings!

Hmmm! Ours wee on me ALL THE TIME! It considerably increases my laundry, since a shirt just doesn't last long through the day if I am holding any of them. In fact they wee on my husband and my daughter also. Maybe it isn't that you aren't worth fighting over . . . since they don't wee on you . . . as much as I seem to remind them of their cage bedding! I'm (and my family) shavings! I am wondering . . . is this normal behavior, or have we got some kind of innate "something" about our family that demands degu pee? LOL!!!

I know my guys, though they don't 'mark' anymore, will get jealous if I spend too much time with the other. Chewy will do tooth-chattering if he thinks it's his turn to be talked to... silly goo...
