Ok so hopefully at the end of the month I shall be adopting Jackdaniels two baby boys yay! I have read lots about introducing boys to boys and know it might be a difficult process!
At the moment I have a large cage (see pics in other thread) and was thinking of dividing that up with chicken mesh (the more rigid kind) so each pair gets a side.
Now, I shall clean the cage thoroughly before putting the new one's in, but will it be ok to just put a pair in each side straight off? Then let them sniff each other, get to know each other type of thing, then after a few weeks introduce them in neutral territory?
Any tips would be much appreciated from those who have had succesful introductions, and those who haven't!!

Clean the cage first, let them get settled. Then they can begin sniffing each other. I'd say 2 separate cages are probably better. If your original goos don't like the new ones then they could still get to them through the chicken wire!
After about a week [or two] you could start the introductions and see how it goes!!
Good luck!!

hmm yeah two seperate cages would be better, problem is I don't have another one. Their old one was a tank so not much use for them sniffing each other! I don't want them to bite each other through the wire, argh!

Gah. I've still gotta break Chili in with Taylor & Hawkins. He just looks far too lonely.

aw, have you tried introducing them? Yeah! Chili & Hawkins get on well enough, they practically breeze by each other. Unfortunately it's Taylor...

oh no! that's such a shame that two of them get on fine! i'm wondering if that will happen with mine, schnitzel seems to be the dominant one and i think he could cause trouble lol. though as the new ones are babies, and mine aren't that old (6 months ishhhh) then they should establish who's boss pretty quickly, maybe, hmm!

We introduced two babies to our slightly older goo after his companion met with calamity. At first things went great. Then things soured hugely for about two months, but I kept at it, working to try and help them get along. Suddenly, VERY unexpectedly (I had about resigned to the failure to help them be friends and had bought a second cage), they started to get along! So . . . I would say that if you have goos in each pair that are clearly the dominant ones, they will take the longest to get along, and you need to be prepared for that. There can be a long time of fighting, and nail biting on your part. There is no failsafe way, and no guarantee unfortunately. Mine did finally fall in love with each other and are all very bonded now. But it was a long and, to be honest, somewhat heart breaking process.
When I was introducing our goos, I divided their cage and although they could reach each other through the bars to a degree, it was only a small degree. Tiny bum nips, attempts at nose nips, and TONS of bluegoo language were the mainstay for the first week, then it calmed down. Personally, I don't have a problem with wire separating the cage into two. It is at least a place to start. If greater changes need to be made, I would think that putting in a second wire wall, with about an inch between the two added walls, would work just fine.
In the end, it has to be what you are comfortable with, and what will work with your goos. Good luck on getting that worked out, and getting them all into a happy bonded group!

At the moment I have a large cage (see pics in other thread) and was thinking of dividing that up with chicken mesh (the more rigid kind) so each pair gets a side. I was in Wickes DIY shop the other week and they have really fine mesh metal stuff (like the cages are made of) but the squares of mesh were only about 1/2 cm. Would that be suitable to separate your cage? They shouldn't be able to get their nashers round that. xxx ;D www.wickes.co.uk/invt/187720

ahh thanks for the replies! wow deguconvert, that did sound like a long process but at least it was a happy ending! Wendi - yes that's the type of thing I was looking at I found some in BandQ, was actually £1 cheaper than that haha. Thanks! I've now decided to take a pair from jackdaniels next litter which is due early june, as it gives me more time to prepare cage n get another spare one if things all go badly wrong! the two boys will now be taken by a pet shop. it's disappointing that i can't take these two, but i just haven't been prepared enough, and what with final exams coming up at uni i thought it was better to leave it til after when i'll have much more time to devote to them all so i'll still be doing the introductions! just not quite yet!

I am 50% sure Bonnie is pregnant her behaviour as changed to exactly the same way as when she was pregnant before. At least I have a spare cage now to seperate them and hopefully this will give her a rest. /me starts to feel sorry for her now she must be every so tired and stressed out
