I just have one quick questions. As of late I've been giving my boys cheerios as treats, not very often, just about once a week, if that. I know they really like them but I was just wondering if its healthy for them and such. ;D

I would say no, althogh we do love our degus its not necisary to give them treats that we enjoy simply because we enjoy them, a degu would probibly prefer some hay or fresh grass to a cherio any day. ;D

Thanks Ricky, I read it all lol. I was just wondering because I dont really have much else to give them for treats and I just wanted to give them something every once in awhile. I know that they really like them and that they have less sugar than a lot of things and as was mentioned in that post, they are promoted as healthy. So I suppose what I was asking was is it bad for them to have every once in awhile (i.e. one a week or once every two weeks) It maybe a dumb question but I just wanted to know lol. Thanks for any replies =]

After everything you read in that thread you still want to give them Cheerios?!! lol
I don't give my degus anything that I would consider a treat. Instead I feed them some of their food or applewood sticks by hand to satisfy MY need to treat them. I just hold back some of their food until later in the day.
They just love the attention and I can be sure that they're not eating any unnecessary sugars.

No lol, I dont want to give them cheerios. Because it made me very cautious, so yes. But your idea sounds good, it would satisfy my need to treat them lol. I mean with just holding back some of their food for later in the day. Thanks for all the help, it really did help and is much appreciated =]

Hi, please do not feed Cheerios!!! Snogglesnitch...you state...they have less sugar and are promoted as healthy. That is for HUMANS....not a degu! If you have to give a treat, do as Ricky says or offer the occassional sunflower seed, again, only once or twice a week.
