hi, im new to degus and still very cautious about what to feed them because of their problems with sugar, when you feed them carrots, brocolli, and tomatoes etc. do you cook them? and just to verify is it that they cant have too much sugar otherwise they get diabetes or cant they eat even tiny amounts of sugar? i have also read a lot of conflicting information about what is acceptable to give them and at the moment i am confused and just sticking to the degu food untill i know for sure. thanks

I avoid all sugars. Do allow small pieces of raw carrot once in a while though. Feed raw vegetables not cooked. Mine like a little spinach, raddichio, endive etc. You can also grow wheat grass in little containers for them.
