Fellow North American degu owners:
Have you found any molasses or sugar free food for your degus? Can you recommend any brand names available in Canada or the U.S.A.?

Briskys make a molasses free pellet that's supposed to be really good for degus. It's US based.

Thank you Hanlou! I just tried to order online but they wouldn't let me ship to Canada. I've left a message on their voice mail and will update this post when I learn more.

I ordered some to try out and emailed them to get a more complete analysis than the ingredients list gives.

Thank you Khay. I see that Pet Valu carries Martin. Have you found a brand of molasses-free chinchilla pellets in Canada or do you just feed your degus the Martin Guinea Pig food? - Ricky

I haven't found any molasses free chin food either. I went to several different pet stores yesterday looking for a chin food with no molasses. No luck. Did you know that they make a degu mix that I found at Pet Paradise, but everything in it has sugar!! I was very dissappointed and angry to see that All it is after I read the ingredients is, dried fruit, dried veg, and cereal. and I went into another pet store and the lady in there told she had been in the pet industry for years but she had no clue that degus were diabetic As I left I was thinking to myself.....self......people like that infuriate me! I realize that degus are the newest upcoming rise in pets in Canada, but please! So I was thinking of doing the same thing and just sticking with the molasses free guinea pig pellets which are the Pet Value brand and staying away from the chin pellets and the store made Degu mixes. Oh and of course the Timothy hay. Gotta have that!!
