[glow=blue,2,300]tHE nuT fisHiiNG gaME...[/glow] This is a great game to play with your degus on a hot day.
What you need: Small food bowl peanuts [1 per dugu] water
All you need to do is fill the bowl up with cool water, put in the peanuts & let your degus go fishing!
[glow=red,2,300]FULL TIME SUPERVISION WHILE PLAYING THIS GAME[/glow]
my degus loved dipping their feet in the water on a hot day! Good Luck!

I was most interested in this post when I saw the title! Sounds like it could be something new for the degus to do, I would agree that its good on a hot day, as any degu that slips wouldnt get too cold. How deep do you make the water out of interest? Also, as I am sure someone will mention before long, the regularity of feeding peanuts isnt good, as they are a very fatty treat to offer. I was going to suggest offering sugar free bran flakes, which is the treat I use, but on second thoughts, they would get soggy very quickly indeed! lol

dried rose hips would also make good bait, as i'm sure they float.

Thankz for your replys! Yes as peanuts are not so good for degus you should not use peanuts all time! When i first tried this game with my girls i tried it with the dried rose hips but my girls were a little scared at first, so to make them a bit more interested I got a peanut let them sniff it so they would be enticed (LOL) and then put it in! Otherwise, in their minds there was no point in doing somthing scary & new for them if the reward wasn't desired! LOL... Now they love this game on hot days and they tend to roll in the water and put their heads in after they have had the treat!!
For the question about the water... well it depends how game the degus are, at first I just put a tiny bit in so only their feet were underwater but gradually as they get better at the game you can make it deeper!
Here are some treats you could put in: Peas (dried peas are good, all natural) sunflower seeds rose hips LOL maybe bran flakes as long as the degus are fast enough! really anything that is healthy for the degus and can float...

Sorry i forgot to mention that on the first go it is best to put in their favourite treat, then you can put in other things. Because after they have done it once with their fave treat, they will see the game as fun and will want to play in the water what ever the treat may be
