Hi i recently brought a grape mineral lick for my degus as one of the baby degus has bad teeth and it will help to keep her teeth in shape it hasn't caused any problems so i would say give it to them it's done mine no harm

just thought i should add my two pennth worth... i have given my four boys a mineral stone (think they are simliar to the licks?!), also in the shape of a grape....For the first few days they didnt touch it. I think it was because they were settling in and also not used to such luxeries (all they had in their old home was a single tired cage, with one ledge and a cardboard tube)... But i just noticed today that they have all taken a sudden likeling to it....almost half of it has gone, its a good thing they are fairly cheap, looks like my boys have taken a liking to them!.

Thanks for the replies, have put it in their cage and it's already covered in nibble marks, so they obviously like it!! ;D

Yeah, I strung my from the roof of the cage. They liked to play with it more than they liked to... lick it.

The flavors are: apple, celery, carrot, and 2 others, but I can't remember!!

My girls, have a mineral block, they chewed on it like twice, then the decided that it made a better perch to sit on and pee on. Maybe it's because mine isn't flavoured? I 'll try to get some different ones so that they can wear down their teeth.

Does it say on the packet what they're flavoured with? I've been a bit wary of flavoured wood/mineral chews for my girls, in case there's sugar in there to make them more attractive to eat.

well, there's mineral licks, and then there's mineral blocks. the licks are the brick-colored wheels that you put on a peg and the animals lick. the mineral blocks are mostly calcium supplement that are shaped and flavored a variety of ways. the most common one is the ice-cream cone. i used to give my boys the cones, but all they would do is turn it into a pile of shards and dust, without actually eating any of it, and the sound of them chewing it was really annoying. >_@
